Chris

Greetings everyone! I have a decently sized collection of cartoon dvds that I watch very frequently. I'm not running out quite yet, but I am always looking to expand and I am hoping to suckle off of your knowledge for some new cartoons to look into.

Values:
- ~11 minute story arcs (60-90 minutes for feature length)
- Self-contained stories
- Quality/unique/humorous animation
- Comedy
- Occasionally, pure nostalgia

Anti-Values:
- Action based cartoons
- Morality preaching cartoons
- Corporate driven cartoons
- Stories that last longer than an episode
- Almost all animation from the 1980s
- The majority of eastern animation

This picture is my collection as of now.

Based on my preferences, please suggest some new titles to look at!
Feel free to be as short or long winded as you like; a simple list or a detailed explanation as to why x cartoon is fantastic or perhaps some clips showcasing the greatness of a particular title.

One other thing to keep in mind is the difference between a cartoon and animation. Not all animation is a cartoon.

I hope that most everyone uses Y! Answers as a way to spread knowledge, but if you're only in it for the points, I will be choosing "Best Answer" based on if someone gives a good suggestion even if it is simple, a bad suggestion if it is thought out, or anything in between.

If you would like to have a bit of a longer chat, please email me at chriscrow3@yahoo.com

You dont think they'll do like a time skip or something stupid like that for season 4 do you?

Any news on when it's coming out, or what it'll be about yet?

Answer
No news yet on when it's out. Assume at least a 6-7 month wait if not longer.

And....does it get much dumber than going through with a Rule of 65 Series Ending with Alicorn Twilight?

Oh right, it did once, and we just don't know what went wrong.

It's like this: the whole "Friendship is Magic" arc--where Twi learns what friendship is--is over. It's ended. Even with the cartoon still going. Now she's Ms. Almighty Then and knows it all, supposedly.

So in context the current mess regarding Equestria Girls is instructive. A meaningful piece of the fanbase is now in _Permanent_ nerdrage/sh=tstorm mode. It will take a MIRACLE to get the adult/older fans back together and happy again, and Hasbro doesn't care to work that hard. Because you know, these aren't OUR damned ponies. Cartoon for little girls, all that.

This either means one of two outcomes: Season 4 dies with a bang or with a wimper.

--With a Bang? Studio B goes out of its way to actually make the show epic. They actually USE Equestria Girls as a jump-off point to ditch the Youth Rating entirely and do darker, Teen-rated content. They run multiple narratives designed to get the Main Six up to par with Twilight (because some of the characters _can't_ become alicorns, whether it's an equal-opportunity thing or not).

It won't be a time-jump per se but it might feel like one since the show will feel older. That won't even be the biggest concern though. The problem is that the fanbase will be split, first into the slice-of-life/action-adventure crowds, then further still as it gets revealed that at least ONE of the Main Six has to nearly become a villain to live up to her potential. Then further controversy will hit still when another of the Main Six ends up actually BEING hereditary royalty--as in a lineal descendant of Celestia herself.

Point is we'll be in permanent controversy/nerdrage mode. The show will be _Great_ and nobody will be happy, because it won't be what it was.

--With a Wimper? Studio B is ordered by Hasbro to "reform the last villains" and pull an "end of history" scenario. Meaning Queen Chrysalis either dies or becomes neutral/neutered like Discord is. And meaning no more two-parters or action-adventure episodes as the show becomes PURELY slice of life. In that situation, Twilight's power and royalty truly no longer matter since nothing happens anymore.

The "good news". No more controversy. Nothing happens anymore. Friendship is Magic just becomes one more odd little cartoon where one of the Princesses just happens to live in a library and do next to nothing. The fanbase might be happy--there might still be good, cute, solid, heart-warming episodes done this way.

But people will quietly leave as they realize that this show is slowly becoming the next Spongebob--on the way to stagnation, and as a cartoon for little girls besides.
