Netflix's programming?

stevenwitt

we currently have DirectTV and are furious with them especially with the whole Viacom dispute thing, since they just took away everything we watch and are basically paying 50.00 for nothing . We heard about Netflix and are wondering would they offer pretty much what Direct TV does? programming like Spongebob, Penguins of Madagascar, Futurama, Family Guy, Tosh.O, South Park, Big Bang Theory, Simpsons, CSI, ect. I see its like 8.00 mo so if we could get that i have no problem kicking Direct TV out the door and save alot of money
also if someone could give a little more info, is it like watch what i want when i want? How does it work? a co-worker tells me i need to wait till next day when new programming is aired
lol ok i probably should have mentioned i have a xbox 360 slim, and a ps3, and a wii and i do have AT&T Broadband for my internet service so i have all qualifications

Answer
Netflix does not stream everyday broadcast Television the day after it is broadcast. While they do have many SEASONS of some shows, they are not current seasons. And MOST seasons of shows are DVD only.

And you still need broadband internet access to use Netflix, unless you are using an OTA HD antennae, which will only give you your LOCAL ABC, NBC, CBS, CW and PBS channels, IF you live in an area where you can pick them up. So anything on the Comedy Channel, Nickelodeon, TNT, TBS, etc, you will not get, unless it is also streaming over the internet.

Now there are internet option for many shows and what would be considered expanded cable options, but you will need something OTHER than Netflix to view them. Look into the many Streaming set top box options like the ones below from this page.

You want to bring the Internet to your HDTV, but which Web TV box is your best bet? We've got reviews and side-by-side comparisons of the latest media receivers to help you decide.

The media receiver/media extender/set-top box category is a bit slippery since it includes so many divergent products. Some, like the Roku XDS, focus more on streaming Web content from sources like Hulu Plus, YouTube, Flickr, or Pandora, while others, like the CiragoTV Platinum CMC3000 concentrate more on storing or streaming your own audio, video, and photos over a wireless network. Some, like Western Digital's WD TV Live Hub and Orb TV, do a little bit of both. Others, like Apple TV, hook into a large online catalog of streaming video you can rent. Apple has its own iTunes store, but other boxes use Amazon on Demand, Blockbuster on Demand, Hulu Plus, and/or Vudu. The Boxee Box and the Logitech Revue with Google TV even integrate a browser so you have access to Flash video, search, and, well, pretty much the whole Web.

While they are the focus of this story, it's not just set-top boxes: TV manufacturers are piling on streaming services in HDTVs and Blu-ray players. Currently, all three major game consoles integrate some form of Internet-video streaming. The Nintendo Wii has Netflix, while the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 offer several services along with easy access to your own PC media over your wireless network. Also, Sony is integrating Google TV in some of its HDTVs like the NSX-32GT1 and its Internet TV Blu-ray Disc Player; other manufacturers are likely to follow suit.
