no but the actor that did his voice died sunday last week his name was earnest bourgnine he was a famous hollywood actor he was 95 when he passed away he was the voice of mermaid man in a couple of episodes of spongebob so the character didn't die the guy that did his voice died so that's why everyone is saying rip mermaid man i hope that answers your question
